George Town : Two-time All England champion Datuk Lee Chong Wei is no longer bothered whether Misbun Sidek would be retained as his coach.
He said he had learnt to be independent during Misbun’s three-month absence.
Ironically, Chong Wei’s comments on Datuk Misbun yesterday (April2, 2011), contrasted with what he said in January about leaving and following Misbun if he does not return as Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) coach.
“I have also learnt a lot from other coaches,” he said when asked to comment on Misbun’s comeback to serve as a coach with BAM.
However, the World No. 1 said Misbun’s return would benefit BAM and himself.
From his point-of-view, Misbun is a good adviser and teacher.
That so sure because BAM pesident Datuk Seri Nadzmi Mohd Salleh said after a council meeting at the Summit Hotel in Subang Jaya that “He may be reunited with his blue-eyed boy and reigning All-England champion Lee Chong Wei but at the same time he may given additional tasks to unearth new talents.”
What we can say right now is that Datuk Chong Wee “sudah dapat gading bertuah, dan tanduk sudah tidak berguna lagi”.
Pepatah Melayu ini bermaksud: “Apabila dapat yang lebih baik, yang ada dibuang”.
Chong Wee is going to retire after the 2012 London Olympics.
Perhaps, after that, Misbun will be able to train a new generation of top shuttlers to replace him and Mohd Hafiz Hashim.
Young shuttlers also want to wear the branded badminton shoes such as Nike.
Ok Datuk Musbin, we are all wise you a continued success in near future.
KLRC’s Mohd Hafiz simply ran out of steam against unheralded Japanese shuttler Riichi Takeshita and lost 13-21, 15-21, in the New Zealand International Challenge badminton tournament in Acukland yesterday (April 2, 11).
With that defeat, Hafiz’s title drought in international competition continues.
The last tournament he won was the Philippines Open in 2006.
